Outside of McDavid, centers Draisaitl and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins are elite options. Both had 100+ points in 2022-23, making Edmonton the only franchise that had three players eclipse the mark. The Oilers dynamic offense that recently ranked first in goals makes them a front-line contender.

New head coach Dave Tippett is charged with getting superstar Connor McDavid some help that can get the Oilers back to the playoffs. They’ll have to do it by improving on their defense, which was 25^th in the NHL in goals against in each of the last two seasons. Andrej Sekera was brought in from Dallas to help solidify the blue line, and only 10 players are under contract into the 2020-21 season, so there will be plenty of space for more moves down the road. Defenseman Evan Bouchard, 19, is also in the pipeline, but he’ll be starting the season with the organization’s AHL club in Bakersfield.
